I run a small business in beautiful southern Scotland hand crafting bridles, show harness, and many other equestrian and non-equestrian items. Depending on you order of requirements it can take 2 or 3 weeks to make an item due to existing orders. Please have patience as producing a piece of leatherwork by hand is a complicated process requiring skill. Saddle fitting In addition to that I have also recieved training in saddle fitting and can advise you on your saddle and it's fit on your horse. I am also adept in the art of saddle reflocking, and many other repairs that become necessary by general riding. I only used top quality pure white sheeps wool for reflocking. All saddles should be checked and reflocked regularly. If there are lumps and bumps on the underside of your saddle then this lack of smoothness will affect the comfort your horse feels when the saddle is on, and will be even more uncomfortable when a rider is in position too. If your horse has back problems then, in many cases, the fit and condition of the saddle, can be a factor in this. Whilst doing this give your stirrup leathers a check and make sure that the holes are still aligned as they can stretch which will cause you to sit crooked on your horses back. Leather and many synthetic saddles may be reflocked to perfect fitting to your horses back. I will give you independant advice on the saddle that you have, and will assist you with any problems that you may have. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harness making All my items of harness are made with the finest quality English leather. I cut, edge, dye, and stitch all items by hand using methods handed down for generations. Trained by David May, the Master Saddler, I have experience in producing quality bridles, and other items in addition to providing a thorough and safe repair service for harness, saddles, rugs etc. Repair service All items must be clean and dry and be clearly marked with your name, telephone number [preferably a mobile], address and the repairs which you wish carried out. An email address means that I can let you know an item is ready to collect by that method if required. If I feel that your item will cost more to repair than it is worth I will call you and advise you of this prior to carrying out the repairs if still required to do so. Non-equestrian items Other non-equestrian items may be made, or repaired for you on request.
| Made to measure bridles One of the services I can provide you is made-to-measure bridles. I offer you the unique choice of bridle that will fit your horse. No two horses are the same and I can measure your horses head and produce a bridle specifically made to fit your horse giving him a degree of comfort that is not found in an 'off the peg' bridle - no matter how expensive it is. You normally buy a bridle and hope it fits your horse - with a made-to-measure Beltane bridle you will be assured that your horse will be comfortable every time you tack up. All bridles and reins, etc, are hand cut by myself from superior English leather. If your horse is uncomfortable then you will not get 100% out of him. | Contact me
Contact me to discuss your requirements, a phone call or text is the quickest way to contact me, as I do not always get the chance to check my email every day. Beltane Equestrian. Susan A Maxwell 88 Georgetown Road Dumfries Scotland DG1 4DF 07725442115 |
